DURHAM – Duke sophomore Alaina McVeigh scored twice in the fourth quarter and the ninth-ranked Blue Devils held Syracuse to just six shots to come away with a thrilling 4-0 victory over the No. 6 Orange in Friday night field hockey action at Williams Field.

The victory pushes the Blue Devils to 5-1 overall and hands Syracuse its first loss of the campaign. Senior captains Barb Civitella and Charlie van Oirschot tallied goals, while Megan Maransky notched her first career point with an assist on what proved to be the game winner.
